Brazil will invest 3,890 billion reais (2.446,5 million dollars) until 2010 in expanding and modernizing the country's main airports in the face of rising demand that will during the World Cup 2014, the government announced on Thursday.
Infraero, the state agency responsible for airport infrastructure, said an assessment of the needs of the terminals, especially in those 18 cities aspiring to host World parties. Of these, 12 will be selected.
A communiqué Infraero clarified that some works are already underway, such as construction of a third passenger terminal at the international airport of Guarulhos, in Sao Paulo, as well as the reform of Terminal 2's Galeao airport in Rio de Janeiro.
