Liverpool Missed a Great Chance for the Premier League Title

Liverpool missed a great chance today to put pressure on Manchester United in the fight for the Premier League title by losing 2-0 to Middlesbrough at the date of the twenty-seventh championship.

An own goal from Xabi Alonso and Spanish from a Tuncay Sanli in the second part dealt the fatal blow to the team of Rafael Benitez.

Liverpool still seven points of leader Manchester United, which has 62 points and one match remaining. In addition, the team "red" fell to third place behind Chelsea's win over the Wigan Athletic 2-1.

"Before the match was difficult and now is even more difficult. We'll see what happens against Sunderland and try to improve, but now depends on United," admitted Benitez.

"If you want to stay on top of the table you have to dial. I do not mean much because for me it is clear that in the first twenty minutes we had five situations and we must seize if we win."

"We had some problems and injuries, some players were tired, but we had chances and control the first thirty minutes. Middlesbrough were better in the second half," the technical "network's", not with Fernando Torres after the Spanish suffered an ankle injury in the victory for the Champions League mid-week before the Real Madrid.

Chelsea opened the scoring through John Terry for 25 minutes, but eight minutes after Kieron Dyer was able to equalize the scoring for Wigan. Frank Lampard ended a victory "blue" time complementary.

Meanwhile, Arsenal today suffered its fourth consecutive tie the match with goals at home to Fulham. The result left Arsenal in fifth place, two of Everton, who sank a little more today at West Bromwich Albion in the last position of the table from the English Football League defeat 2-0.

Australia's Tim Cahill and Frenchman Louis Saha set the team goals for Liverpool, which is sixth with 44 points.

Cahill pitch to launch a corner goal nine minutes before the break, while Saha, who was returning to the team after an injury, closed the scoring at 70 minutes.

NRL Rugby 2009 – Just around the corner

The NRL rugby league is one of the toughest sporting competitions in the world and don't expect anything different in 2009.

Once again Melbourne and Manly will be up there. It will be interesting to see the NRL results St George gets with Wayne Bennett at the helm. They are at 16 to win the whole thing which are healthy NRL league odds.

Once were NRL rugby powerhouses of the 1980s, Parramatta and Canterbury are languishing at 30 and 36 respectively. Both have new coaches in Daniel Anderson and Kevin Moore respectively which probably goes someway behind the disrespectful odds those two have received.

He's not a rookie coach anymore so the honeymoon period is now over for Brad Fittler. They can get very impatient at Bondi Junction when the Roosters sit in the bottom half of the NRL ladder. It is also time for Jason Taylor to deliver NRL results to Redfern. They have been patient. They will be feeling the same way up in North Queensland and on the Gold Coast.

With Melbourne, Manly and Brisbane dominating for the majority of the decade, pretty much every other club wants to break their drought.

World Baseball Classic betting – Are the Dominicans still a favorite?

World Baseball Classic betting is less than a week away, so it’s hard to believe a major contender’s online betting chances could change so dramatically in the few days before the event starts. But that seems to be the case for the Dominican Republic, which has lost some major names leading up to the WBC odds.

An All-Star team of sluggers – Albert Pujols, Vladimir Guerrero, Aramis Ramirez, Carlos Pena – not to mention dynamic young hurler Francisco Liriano – pulled out before the final World Baseball Classic betting rosters were announced on Feb. 24. Whom does that leave to keep the Dominican Republic a strong sportsbook contender?

The hitting lineup should still mash enough; Hanley Ramirez and Jose Reyes will set the table while David Ortiz and Alex Rodriguez – who clearly has a lot to prove – can drive ‘em in. Robinson Cano, Nelson Cruz and the suddenly aging Miguel Tejada can provide pop at the bottom of the order.

The Dominicans’ big question mark in the World Baseball Classic odds is pitching. Liriano’s drop-out leaves the nation without a true ace in the tournament. The Dominicans have no shortage of guys with electric stuff, including Juan Cruz, Johnny Cueto and Ubaldo Jimenez, but they’ll need Edinson Volquez to match his MLB success of last year and a comeback performance from Pedro Martinez, who’ll be auditioning for a major-league job, would go a long way.

Sports Betting blog reports: Online betting fans certainly can’t write the Dominican Republic off in WBC betting, but Team USA may now be the tournament favorite.

Champions Returns with Eight "Finals"

The cold winter in Europe was nearing its end, spring is coming and with it returns the Champions League, the highest continental football odds competition, featuring eight games worthy of the final.

Paused since December after the last day of the group stage, the tournament returns with the eighth-finals. From here the duels will be sudden death.

Eight matches will be worthy of the title match to be held next May 27 in Rome. However, it is always possible to determine what is most striking: Real Madrid, Liverpool, Inter Milan, Manchester United, Chelsea, Juventus and Barcelona-Lyon, stars of a shock elimination in which there are also other large continent like Bayern Munich German.

"From being in good health, had not really known where to go. The draw has led us matches that could well be the final of the online betting Champions League, "said the legendary Franz Beckenbauer in a row.

Figures. In addition to matches between some of the most reputable clubs in the world, this will be an opportunity to see the best footballers in the world: Cristiano Ronaldo, Leo Messi, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Fernando Torres, Frank Lampard, Wayne Rooney, Gianluigi Buffon, Steven Gerrard and Frank Ribery, among many others.

Milan will be the scene of the morning duel between Inter and Manchester United, where Alex Ferguson and José Mourinho may meet after the last of the Portuguese in England. Mou familiar to Sir Alex, who lost only once in ten duels when Chelsea went to between 2004 and 2007.

For its part, Barcelona seeks to recover the lost feelings in the last days of the Spanish League in his duel with Olympique Lyon. The game invites the game open and the goals for the offensive style of both teams. The young striker Karim Benzema as the main threat appears for the defense azulgrana.

Arsenal and Roma are measured in other Anglo-Italian tie without clear favorite. The Romans managed to recover from a bad start to the season, while the Gunners Arsene Wenger rioja trust of all Europe, under the baton of the talented Russian Andrei Arshavin.

Meanwhile, Atletico Madrid will hang on to its place in Europe in Porto before the duel, a game that the team with a thousand faces questions about its performance, but with the hope of obtaining the best version of the Argentine Sergio Agüero.

The Argentine will return to title after resting on Saturday in the Spanish league to enjoy his recent fatherhood.

Cut points excites Madrid

The unexpected defeat of Barcelona on Saturday at Espanyol (1-2) and beating him to Real Madrid Betis (6-1) ingredients were sufficient to restore excitement to the Spanish League, which just a few weeks ago seemed totally defined for Barcelona.

Barca is still the leader, but with income less than five points (the difference is now seven) than two weeks ago regarding the Merengues, who with the help of a enrachado Raul, still dream of seizing the title.

The previous day he left out the points with the Betis match, after losing by two goals to nil.

This new date was a clear factor in numerical inferiority since 38 ', by the expulsion of Keita. This influence came about for two goals from Ivan de la Peña, who shot down the strength of the block Catalan, which was followed 22 days without losing. On the other hand, Espanyol accumulating 14 games without knowing what it was winning.

Also, Espanyol, also in Barcelona, managed to win a local derby after 27 years.

Racha. The victory was the ninth before Betis consecutive victory for Real Madrid since the arrival of Juande Ramos found the technical track. Could not be at a better time in the season.

Betis suggested before a big show, plus a dose of his players thinking about the game against Liverpool this week for the Champions League.

Cutting units makes think about a comeback as magical happened in the 2006-2007 season in which they wrested the scepter Merengues andalusia Barca in recent days.

Milan will not increase bid for Beckham

Adriano Galliani, Milan vice-president, said Saturday that the Italian club will not increase their offer for David Beckham.

The Galaxy of Los Angeles recently rejected an offer of three million dollars, describing it as ridiculous, but Galliani told the U.S. team that is the value of the player in the market.

No, Galliani told La Gazzetta dello Sport when asked if there would be another offer. I have experience to know the value of a player and it makes no sense to spend more on the European market.

Milan made an offer that seems appropriate for a loan of about eight months ... from November 30th David will be available for nothing.

Beckham played this week in Milan's 1-1 draw with Werder Bremen in the UEFA Cup, as we enter the final minutes.

It was the first game in which English is not the steering wheel holder since arriving on loan at Milan in December. Beckham dragged an annoyance since the twins who played the week after the English selection.

We do not want any controversy, thanks to the Galaxy for Beckham to lend in these months, said Galliani.

In the U.S. they are set in the commercial, while in Europe the transfers are based on technical aspects. The budget I have available is already stretched to the maximum payments for transfers and wages.

March Madness betting – Where are they now?

Like few other sports events, March Madness betting produces heroes – memorable players who capture fans’ hearts with spectacular performances. Many of those players, like Christian Laettner or Larry Bird, move on to great NBA careers.

Some heroes, however, disappear off the face of the Earth after making waves in March Madness betting. Let’s look at a few memorable players from recent March Madness betting seasons who are nowhere to be found now

WHO: Bryce Drew, Valparaiso

WHAT: Hit the magical buzzer beater to upset Ole Miss in the 1998 March Madness betting tournament

WHERE IS HE NOW? He enjoyed a brief NBA career with the Rockets, Bulls and Hornets before retiring in 2005. He is now the associate coach at Valparaiso, working under his father.

WHO: Ed and Charles O’Bannon, UCLA

WHAT: Led the Bruins to the 1995 NCAA championship

WHERE ARE THEY NOW? After achieving March Madness betting glory, Ed (ninth, 1995) and Charles (third, 1997) are considered two of the biggest first-round draft busts in NBA history. Ed’s NBA career sputtered out after stints with the Nets and Mavs before he was cut by the Magic in 1997. He now sells cars in Las Vegas, though he did finish his degree at UNLV. Charles struggled with the Detroit Pistons for two seasons and now leads the Japanese Basketball League in scoring.

Betting on International Friendlies

Besides finding free football picks and soccer betting picks, betting on international friendlies is worth considering when there are not a lot of sporting events to bet on. Even though betting on friendly games can be risky, we will try to show you how to make some profit even from these kinds of game.

First thing to do before placing a bet is to look at the squads. It is important to see if the coach called all his best players or he will instead test some new ones. If the match comes after the disappointing campaign at the big tournament, he is likely to change the big portion of his starting line-up.

Motivation is also very important and there are coaches that are determined to win every game, regardless if it is competitive or not. The motivation is likely to be even bigger if the coach is under pressure as a defeat even in a friendly match could be fatal.

Other coaches are not interested in the result but see a friendly game as an opportunity to try out some new players and all this is good to know when placing a bet.

If both opponents are eager to impress the fans rather than recording a good result, then a good option is to bet on over as the teams are unlikely to pay a lot of attention to defence. However, there are some coaches that take these games completely seriously and they would rather see their players fulfill their tactical ideas than playing attacking football, and in these cases the best option is betting on under.

You should also back the national team that has just had a new coach appointed as the players will be looking to impress him in order to stay in the squad for the competitive games.

No. 4 Pitt scores first-ever win over No. 1 team

DeJuan Blair had 22 points and 23 rebounds and Levance Fields scored all 10 of his points in the final 3:09 as No. 4 Pittsburgh beat No. 1 Connecticut 76-68 on Monday night, the Panthers' first win ever over a top-ranked team.

Fields missed his first seven shots from the field but the senior guard gave the Panthers (24-2, 11-2 Big East) the lead for good with a 3-pointer with 3:09 left that made it 64-61. He added another 3 with 2:21 left to make it 67-61, and he added four free throws in the final minute.

A.J. Price had 18 points for the Huskies (24-2, 12-2), who started their third week at No. 1 earlier Monday and had their 13-game winning streak ended.

Sam Young had 25 points for Pittsburgh, which lost all 13 games it had played against No. 1 teams, the last three against Connecticut.

2009 Daytona 500 - Props

The 2009 Sprint Cup Series schedule officially gets underway on Sunday afternoon with the season-opening Daytona 500 at Daytona International Speedway.

Ryan Newman won the Daytona 500 last season, but he didn't pick up enough momentum from that victory to earn himself a place in the Chase for the Sprint Cup. Kyle Busch won the Coke Zero 500 at Daytona last July.

Kevin Harvick won the Daytona 500 back in 2007, while defending Cup champion Jimmie Johnson took the checkered flag in the event back in 2006. Jeff Gordon was the 2005 Daytona 500 champ, and he has piled up six Cup wins on the track.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. won the Daytona 500 back in 2004, and he also visited victory lane in the Pepsi 400 at Daytona in 2001. Tony Stewart has a pair of Pepsi 400 wins on his resume, while Jamie McMurray, Greg Biffle, and Jeff Burton each won that race once.

The Vegas futures heading into the week had Busch pegged as the 4/1 favorite to win the Daytona 500, with Johnson at 5/1, Earnhardt Jr. at 6/1, and Hamlin at 8/1. Gordon and Carl Edwards were both holding down 12/1 odds to start the season with a win.

The starting lineup for the Daytona 500 will be decided on Thursday in the Gatorade Duel, a pair of 150-mile qualifying races. Coverage for Sunday is set to begin at 2:00pm ET. Harvick won the annual Budweiser Shootout at Daytona over the weekend.

After racing at Daytona the drivers of the Sprint Cup Series will move on to Fontana for a race on February 22. The circuit's March schedule will then feature events at Las Vegas, Atlanta, Bristol, and Martinsville.

West Indies – England 2nd Test Preview

The pressure on England heading into the Second Test against the West Indies will be inordinate. It just wasn't that they lost the opening Test of the series but that they did so in such an abject pathetic way. To be bowled out for 51 in 34 overs is nowhere near good enough.

After the loss, an SOS should have been sent out to Michael Vaughan and he should have been put on the first plane to the Caribbean. There is no doubt he would make a better fist of it. Ian Bell simply isn't providing them with the impetus which they require at Number 3.

If Alastair Cook doesn't start making some runs they might want to drag Michael Atherton out from the press box and ask that he put the pads on.

The bowlers did reasonably well although they have to work out the challenges system better.

When you lose as horribly as England did, you can go in one of two directions. You can plummet further or you can be galvanized by the criticism and come out fighting.

England would be well aware that the Australian side is watching them with an eye to the Ashes. Ashes 2009 is now just five short months away. As much as Australia are struggling, if England don't regroup they could be looking down the barrel of another 5-0 Ashes pummeling.

The problem for England is that they don't have much as far as up and coming cricketers. Who else is there who has the ability to shine in the cauldron of Ashes cricket? If this team is all England has, they are in more trouble than they thought.

The West Indies need to be careful they don't let the First Test victory get to their heads. They haven't won the series yet and the worse thing they could do is allow themselves to be lulled into a false sense of security.

This will be just the second Test to be played at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua. The locals will be hoping they can summon the aura of the man who made a habit of terrorizing the English team. As for England, it's not just the series on the line but some of their careers.
