The Detroit Pistons on Monday shook the NBA to get to the base stellar Allen Iverson in an exchange with the Denver Nuggets. Detroit broke off from Chauncey Billups, most valuable player in the  NBA Finals, whom the team won in 2004, plus Antonio McDyess, their best  alternate, and the prospectus Cheikh Samb.
Just consider that  this was the right time to change the team, said the president of  sports operations for the Pistons, Joe Dumars, to The Associated Press.  Iverson gives us a dimension we have not been here, and we think that  really helps us.
Iverson is in the final year of his contract  and earn $ 20.8 million this season. It could debut with the Pistons on  Wednesday night in Toronto.
He was very excited about the exchange, told the AP Leon Rose, Iverson agent.
Billups is the second year of a contract for four, with a guaranteed  salary of $ 46 million and a club option for 14 million more for a  fifth year. The Pistons kept McDyess out of the market for free agents  to give him a contract extension for two years and $ 13.5 million, and  would like to have it back if the Nuggets, a team that cuts costs,  terminate his contract.
