England refused to play in Madrid for a friendly against Spain next February, after a few songs racist who suffered some of its players in the Santiago Bernabeu stadium in the team's last visit four years ago.

The Spanish federation was fined 100,000 Swiss francs (¢ 49.5 million) after which players Shaun Wright-Phillips, Ashley Cole, Rio Ferdinand, Jermaine Jenas and Jermain Defoe were victims of racial slurs in the stadium of Real Madrid.

The communication director of the Football Association of England (FA), Adrian Bevington, said yesterday that the friendly with the European champion, was proposed by the selector Fabio Capello.

"But we still have to confirm a stage and sign the contract," he said.

"However, the FA from the start, with Fabio, had not been clear that the party would play in Madrid because of racist incidents that suffered the last time (in 2004)," added Bevington.

Hours later, the Spanish Federation picked up the gauntlet and made it clear that the friendly February is not yet decided if it should and that dispute, that entity will be responsible for appointing the seat.

"There is nothing signed with the English federation (...) If materialize the agreement, the party disputaría is where the Spanish Federation considers it appropriate," said the spokesman Jorge Carretero.

"The Spanish Federation has not received any communication from the British veto at the stadium of Real Madrid," he added.

The selection of the English midfielder Steven Gerrard said he would love to face the champion team of Euro 2008.

"But I think the best thing is to play in an arena that is not the (Santiago) Bernabeu."
