THE ELITE
Helio Castroneves
Indy 500 odds: +375
The Dancing With the Stars winner is far more than just an entertainer. He has two Indy 500 odds titles under his belt already (2001, 2002) and has a good car with Penske. After escaping jail time for tax evasion, he should race with vigor on Sunday and it’s no wonder he has the best sportsbook odds of any racer.
Scott Dixon
Indy 500 odds: +425
Right behind Castroneves is the guy who looks like the best bet to win on paper. Not only is Dixon the defending champion, he’s fresh off a win at Kansas. You have to like his Indy 500 odds.
THE CONTENDERS
Ryan Briscoe
Indy 500 odds: +625
If you want a guy with a fast car and good sportsbook value, Briscoe could be your man. He’s racing well at the moment and, though his best finish at the Brickyard is fifth, he has a Penske car and that always bodes well.
Dario Franchitti
Indy 500 odds: +700
He has an Indy 500 victory already, but that 2007 win was cut short by rain, so Ashley Judd’s boy toy probably wants to win a full-length race at the Brickyard to prove himself. He’s a solid pick with better value than the major contenders, so it wouldn’t be a bad idea to roll the dice on him.
THE SLEEPERS
Danica Patrick
Indy 500 odds: +925
It’s fitting that the top Indy 500 sleeper is the one driver most online bet players want to sleep with. Patrick could be poised to finally break through, as she has a pair of fourth-place finishes at the event and two-top five finishes on the IndyCar circuit this season. Whether or not you pick her depends on how you bet online; Danica Patrick is a better choice for those who like playing the long shots for big value.
Tony Kanaan
Indy 500 odds: +925
Kanaan’s experience could go along way on Sunday; he’s raced in seven Indy 500s, with three top-fives and four top-10s, so it’s entirely possible that he finally puts it all together and wins. Like Patrick, he’s a great sportsbook pick for anyone hoping to win big money in Indy 500 betting.
