Clint Dempsey is 19th best player in Premier League, according to Castrol Rankings

[From our pals at project-2010.net]

Somebody tweeted this yesterday and I thought it was kind of interesting. (Thank you, Somebody.) The Castrol Rankings have have our very own Clint Dempsey listed as the 19th best player in the Prem. Just what are the Castrol Rankings, you ask? Well, here's what Castrol have to say:

"As an Official Sponsor of the 2010 FIFA World Cup™ we've developed a definitive system for rating the world's best players. The Castrol Index uses the latest technology to objectively analyse and rank player performance."

What is the "definitive system," exactly? I'm not really sure, but there's more info on their site. The point is that it's supposedly objective, and they've got Clint Dempsey at #19 in England, ahead of notable players like Benayoun, Kuyt, Reyna, Gerrard, Terry, and Tevez. Very interesting. See the full English rankings here.

The index covers leagues in England, France, Germany, Spain, and Italy. You can filter the results by a number of criteria, including nationality. Since this is Project 2010, after all, I decided to see how they rank Americans across Europe. Their top five (in order): Dempsey, Friedel, Howard, Bradley, and Hahnemann. Not that surprising, I suppose. Bocanegra at 6th was interesting, but not shocking. See the full list here.
